Quilts made from Crown Royal bags
Lets take a deep dive into these two quilts we recently completed. These were of course made from Crown Royal Bags. This article will be more photos than words. There is a video at the end... But the person taking the video was new at it! So the video quality is not that great. But the information is good!

The All Purple Crown Royal Bag Quilt
Size: 48" x 60"
This is in the larger lap size. This is a great size to use on the couch or at the foot of a bed. It's not too large.
Border: 4" solid
Without the border, the quilt would have been just 40" x 52". Too small to use as a quilt. That size would be more of a wall hanging.

Binding:
The binding on this quilt include piping. We used the same dark purple fabric we used on the star blocks for the binding.
Style:
Too Cool Style with multiple size blocks.
Number of Bags: 50
* As a side note, you can see from this series of photographs how much the color can change from photo to photo. Some photos look very purple while others look dark blue. But it's all Crown Royal purple. This is why we don't send or post pictures of backing fabric colors.

Style:
Too Cool Style with multiple size blocks. We had to use some purple fillers to make up the difference in area due to few bags than the all purple quilt.
We did balance the colorful bags throughout the quilt. We made each of the colored bags the same size to help in the layout.
Number of Bags: 40
Which One Do We Like Best?
This is our opinion and you can take it with a grain of salt. We all prefer the all purple quilt. First, it's more traditional, being based on the original purple bag. Second, it just feels more cohesive. If we were to choose one to hang in our shop, it would be the purple quilt.
But the customer loved both of them and told me that we couldn't keep either. So mean! We are delighted she likes her quilts.
If you have just purple bags, then you are set with an all purple quilt. If you have some colored bags, you need to know that they will become the focal point of the quilt. You need to decide if you like that look or not. If not, then you will need to choose to pull out the colored bags from you grouping for your quilt.

How to Have a Crown Royal Bag Quilt Made
We are happy to make a Crown Royal Bag quilt or pillow for you. You just have to have the bags and ask!
How many bags?
I would suggest at least 50 bags for a quilt. That's how many our purple quilt has. If you want a larger quilt, you will need more. For example, if you want a king size quilt, you will need 200 bags or more.
If you want a larger quilt that your bags will make, we can add blocks of purple to make the quilt larger. We did this with the colorful quilt.
For a pillow, we would suggest 10 to 15.
How much will a Crown Royal bag quilt cost?
A lot. Sorry. They are a lot of work. We charge the same rate for these quilts as we do for a simple baby clothes quilt. Here's a link to the pricing for baby clothes quilts. Remember, the border will increase the cost.
How do you care for a Crown Royal bag quilt or pillow?
Dry-clean only. These bags are made of low quality flannel. The dye in the fabric will run and the blocks will shrink if it is washed. If you don't believe me, throw a bag in with a load of whites!
