Christmas is one of the busiest times of year for T-shirt quilts. If you are hoping to give a quilt as a Christmas gift, the best thing you can do is start early.
Holiday availability depends on the type of quilt, the size of the quilt, how many T-shirts you have, and how full our schedule is when you contact us.
The deadline dates below will help you understand when to start, what needs to be ready, and what to do if the recommended holiday deadline has already passed.
Best Time to Start
This is the best time to begin planning a T-shirt quilt for a holiday gift. You will have more time to gather your T-shirts, choose the right quilt style, and send everything in without the last-minute panic.
October 1
This is the date we recommend starting your order if you want the best chance of having your quilt finished before Christmas.
October 15
Your T-shirts need to be here with your order form. Too Cool T-shirt Quilts has different order forms based on the type of quilt and where you are located, so make sure you are using the right one.
Contact us first
If the recommended deadline has passed, do not assume it is impossible. Availability will depend on the type of quilt, the size, and how full the schedule is. We also may be willing to charge a rush fee depending on our workload.
You still have gift options
If there is not enough time to finish the quilt before Christmas, you can still give the idea of the quilt as the gift. A note, a photo of the T-shirts, or a printed order plan can let the recipient know a quilt is coming.
This might even be better in some situations. It gives the recipient a chance to have some input into the process, especially if they would enjoy helping choose the T-shirts, quilt style, or overall direction.
Christmas is not the only date that can sneak up on you. T-shirt quilts are often made for graduation, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries, memorial gifts, and retirement gifts.
If you want the quilt finished for a specific date, start early. You will need time to gather the T-shirts, choose the right quilt style, complete the correct order form, and get your T-shirts to us.
Remember that April through June and October through December are a quilt maker’s busiest times. If your special occasion falls during these months, we may need additional time to make your quilt.
There are two timelines to think about.
Your timeline starts when you begin gathering T-shirts, choosing a quilt style, filling out the order form, and getting everything to us.
Our timer starts after we have your T-shirts and order form, cut your T-shirts, figure the size and price of your quilt, and you approve the quilt.
When your T-shirts arrive, we will email you within 2 business days to let you know we have them. Then we will cut your T-shirts, determine the size of your quilt, and calculate the price.
Once you approve the quilt, our 4 to 6 week timer begins.
We take that timer seriously. If we do not think we can finish your quilt by the date you need, we will let you know before you approve the quilt.
If you are planning for a holiday, graduation, birthday, or another specific date, please do not wait until our published deadline to start gathering your T-shirts. That deadline is based on our 4 to 6 week timer, not the time it takes you to gather your T-shirts and complete your order form.
The sooner you start your timeline, the better chance we have of meeting the date you need.
Yes, if the person has T-shirts they care about. A T-shirt quilt works well when the T-shirts are connected to school, sports, races, concerts, travel, family events, a loved one, or another part of their life.
A T-shirt quilt can be a good Christmas gift for a graduate, runner, athlete, parent, spouse, retiree, or someone with years of T-shirts saved in a drawer or box.
Sometimes. If you already have access to the T-shirts, a surprise can work. If the recipient needs to choose the T-shirts or help make decisions, it may be better to give the idea of the quilt as the gift and let them have input into the process.
You may still have options. The number of T-shirts needed depends on the quilt style and size. If you are not sure whether you have enough, contact us before you rule out the idea. Read more about making a T-shirt quilt larger without more T-shirts.
