T-shirt quilt prices vary widely because companies are not always selling the same type of product.
Some make simple two-layer T-shirt blankets. Others make true quilts with batting, backing, quilting and binding. The design can also range from same-size blocks in rows to fully custom layouts.
Before comparing prices, make sure you are comparing the same type of product and understand what each price includes.
A T-shirt blanket and a T-shirt quilt are not the same product.
A T-shirt blanket typically has a T-shirt top attached to fleece. A true quilt has three layers: the T-shirt top, batting and backing fabric. Those layers are held together with quilting, and the outside edge is finished with binding.
A blanket costs less because it requires fewer materials and less labor. When comparing prices, first find out which product you are buying.

Ask about extra charges for borders, patches, difficult materials, repairs, design changes or signature-required shipping. A low advertised price can become much less impressive once the extras begin piling on. Puzzle-style, stained-glass and other custom T-shirt quilts require more design time than quilts made with same-size blocks in rows. Each graphic must be measured, placed and cut to fit the overall layout.
Stained-glass quilts also require narrow strips of fabric between the blocks, adding more cutting, sewing and materials. The more customized the design, the more time and skill it takes to make.
Do not compare prices until you know you are comparing similar products. Look at the finished quilt, not just the starting price.
