Experience

Experience matters in making great T-shirt quilts. We made our first T-shirt quilt back in the early 1990's. We have made more than 12,000 over the years. That's a lot. I don't know how long we have been making runDisney T-shirt quilts for... but our first was well before 2018.

Design

Your quilt needs a designed that is more than just a grid of T-shirts. It needs to be more than just the T-shirts. It needs to be a cohesive look that highlights your T-shirts while having an overall design that is interesting on its own. 

Tech Fabric

So many T-shirt quilt makers hate Tech fabric. They say it's too difficult to work with. All this means is that it's difficult to iron-on backing fabric/interfacing to the T-shirts. Iron-on backing fabric makes T-shirt material act more like a stiff cotton - thus making it "easier" to work with. All of that is unnecessary and will make your soft T-shirt stiff.

Quilting Designs

Quilting holds the three layers of a quilt together. A quilt without quilting is not a quilt. It's a blanket. Blankets are not what you should want for your T-shirts. Read more about the difference between a quilt and a blanket here. 

You want a quilt that has beautiful long-arm quilting highlighting your T-shirts. Read about the different styles of quilting here. 

In the example here, the first photo is of the front the quilt with one block highlighted. The second photo shows that we traced the princess from the front and how it shows up on the back of a quilt. This is too cool! And where our name originated. 

runDisney T-shirts Should Have Their Own Quilt

Your T-shirts are part of series collections (Princess Half, Star Wars Rival Run, Dopey Challenge). This means that if you have done the race weekend over and over, you should have one quilt made just from your runDisney T-shirt collection. On the other hand, if you have run the race just once and have no plan to ever do the event again, then mixing your runDisney T-shirts in with other race T-shirts is not an issue.

Also, if you have a great collection of runDisney T-shirts, don't mix in one or two other non runDisney related race T-shirts. They just don't belong.
