How Many T-shirts?

It’s hard to say! The list on the Pricing page is only an approximation of the number of T-shirts/ sweatshirts it may take to make a quilt of that size. It may take more T-shirts if the designs on the shirts are small. Or it may take less if the designs are big.

Generally, we take the number of shirts you send and cut them. Then we determine what size quilt those shirts could make. We will call you and tell you the dimensions of the quilt that these shirts can make. At this time you can accept the dimensions of the quilt or you can add or remove shirts so the quilt is the size you would like.

Note that we can make your quilt what ever size your T-shirts will allow. So you might have a quilt that is in between standard sizes.

Size

Approximate
# of T-Shirts

  Lap 48" x 48" 15–20
  Large Lap 52" x 68" 20- 30
  Twin 60" x 84" 30–40
  Full 84" x 92" 40–50
  Queen 92" x 100" 50–60
  King 100" x 112" 60–80

Not Enough Shirts?

Do you need to make your T-shirts go further? We can cut your shirts "big". This means that there is more space around the design than we would normally cut. If you think that we need to cut your shirts big, let us know before we begin cutting.

We can also make your quilt larger by adding squares of bright colored T-shirt material. In the two quilts below, we were very short on T-shirts to make the quilt the right size. So we extended the T-shirts with colored squares of T-shirt material.

Your T-shirts

Your shirts are special and important! And each T-shirt is a unique part of your quilt. So when we plan and design your quilt, the quilt blocks are cut to fit the design on the T-shirt and not a pre-determined size square. This allows for very small to very large T-shirts designs to be used into your quilt.

This is also why it is difficult to say how many T-shirts it will take to make your quilt. We don't just use, for example, four blocks across and five blocks down. Boring! Too Cool T-shirt Quilts are unique because we integrate many different block sizes into our quilts. Don't accept any less in your quilt!

Feel free to ask us any question!
